Our Rights Organization has raised concerns over the reported non-availability of LPG cylinder regulators at the Consumers Cooperative Stores (CCS) in Mayabunder, North and Middle Andaman, and has requested an official enquiry into the issue.
In a written representation dated 13 October 2026, Poovarasan, District Secretary of the organisation’s North and Middle Andaman district unit, asked the Deputy Commissioner to arrange an inspection and take necessary steps to ensure the timely availability and fair distribution of LPG regulators to residents.
The letter states that the organisation has received complaints from residents who reportedly faced difficulties obtaining regulators because of a shortage. It says the situation has caused inconvenience to households that depend on LPG for their daily cooking needs.
Organisation seeks inspection and action
The representation asks the district administration to examine the reported shortage and conduct an enquiry into the availability of regulators at CCS, Mayabunder.
It also requests action to ensure that regulators are made available in a timely manner and distributed fairly among affected residents.
The letter describes regulators as essential components for the safe and uninterrupted use of LPG cylinders. However, the representation does not provide figures on the number of residents affected, the quantity of regulators available, the duration of the reported shortage or the expected date of replenishment.
Official response awaited
The allegation of non-availability has been raised by the organisation in its grievance letter. Dweep Tulika has not independently established the extent or duration of the reported shortage, and no response from CCS or the district administration was included in the material provided for this report.
The administration and CCS may clarify the current stock position, the reasons for any shortage and the steps being taken to address residents’ complaints.
The issue concerns access to an essential household component in North and Middle Andaman. Further information from the authorities and affected residents would help establish the scale of the problem and whether corrective action is required.
