Dr. R.K. Halder, President of the Bengal Association of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (BAANI), has proposed four names for consideration in the naming of unnamed islands in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The suggestions were submitted by Dr. Halder in his capacity as a member of the Sub-Committee constituted for naming unnamed islands. The matter was discussed at a meeting held on October 13, 2026. According to the communication issued by BAANI, the suggestions have been considered by the Department of Arts and Culture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
Among the proposed names are two islanders who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. They are Shri Asim Bhattacharya, a resident of Prem Nagar, and Shri Dilli Rao, a resident of Dairy Farm, Port Blair.

The first is Shri Gulzara Singh, an ex-serviceman who settled in Great Nicobar Island.
The second is Shri Partap Singh, who lived in Port Blair and was identified and felicitated by BAANI in 2007 at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium. According to the communication, Partap Singh had served as the driver of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Germany.
Through these proposals, BAANI has sought recognition for individuals associated with the region's contribution to India's military and freedom struggle history.
The proposals place the contributions of Kargil War martyrs and former INA members before the authorities for consideration in the process of naming unnamed islands.
However, BAANI's communication does not indicate that the proposed names have received final approval or that any official island-naming notification has been issued.
